Which pixels become transparent?
Only matching pixels connected to an edge through other matching pixels are removed. Enclosed same-coloured pixels inside a subject remain intact; this differs from global white-to-transparent.
How do I pick the background colour?
The top-left corner colour is selected initially. Use the colour control or press Pick colour from original image and click the preview. Increase tolerance for JPEG noise or near-matching shades.
Does this work for complex photo backgrounds?
This colour-based tool works best on flat backgrounds, up to 25 MP. For photos and complex backgrounds, follow the Remove Background link for subject detection. JPG itself cannot store transparency; download PNG.
